Piano: ACCURATE jumps EVERY time. Tutorial.

Today we are talking about the techniques for managing and being accurate with jumps in faster sections of music on the piano. We go through the main challenges of jumps, and introduce the technique of “over before you play” to overcome these challenges. We cover the four steps for incorporating this technique into practice and also the common mistakes to avoid.

In this tutorial we talk about why, when and how to practise piano in the dark without looking at your hands. We discuss whether or not this is something you should be doing. More broadly, we cover tips related to not looking at your hands when you’re playing the piano as well as how to develop a ‘magical musical map’ of the keyboard so that looking at every note and change of position is no longer necessary, allowing our music to flow.
